We moved to corpus Christi and I found a wonderful doctor who listened and worked with me on my budget. My eyes continually worsen and there's not much that can be done. The problem was that I was so near-sighted that a large portion of my cornea was shaved off. Now my eyes have a bulge in them much like a balloon when you squeeze it and it bulges. You can't see this just by looking at me. But I feel I was probably not a good candidate for Lasik but it's all about the money.
Horrible horrible horrible! Save your money and go somewhere else. The people that work 'customer service' are ALL hateful, incompetent and flat out rude. My parents have been going here because they don't know another place. They are both senior citizens on a fixed, very low income and they tried to overcharge them saying the "insurance" said it was that price. My mom said she spoke to the insurance company and it wasn't plus the copay is ON THE CARD. They were then told the price for the surgery and were told "don't come back if you don't have the money". The impression you get from here is that they are nothing but money-grabbing
When it became apparent I needed cataract surgery I met with doctors in Tulsa and Denver. I did not find a doctor that cared about what I wanted. The attitude was they could do the surgery and then I would get glasses or contacts to correct my vision.
Was not impressed. Out of 2 1/2 hours, I saw the surgeon for maybe 3 minutes. The first lady that was helping me was proficient, the second lady, not so much. Felt like a I was just being herded through...... will go somewhere else to have my surgery done.
Of course, he can’t guarantee results, but his attitude was about what I wanted. I had him do the procedure. I tested today, 3 weeks later, at 20-20 in my distance eye and 20-25 in my reading eye. I am so happy.
Saw him three times with my 86 year old dad for his cataract surgeries. I am sure he is a very good surgeon, but has absolutely NO 'bedside' manner. He was very abrupt in answering my questions and acted like I was an imposition just being in the exam room with my memory-challenged father. Since I live in Austin I do not know the ophthalmologists in Amarillo, but I will say if he is the only game in town, I would travel to another town or look for another doctor.
Since then, we have moved to multiple cities and used multiple doctors.
Dr. Rush is hands down the best. He is skilled and well respected. I do recommend him.
I returned to Amarillo, last month, and how refreshing to have a doctor that listened to what I wanted.
About 20 years ago I had lasik surgery performed by Dr. James Avery Rush. It was a huge success.
In December 2010 I had Lasik surgery. It was great at first. Then my sight slowly began to deteriorate. About a year and a half later I went back. I was told it was probably dry eye and given drops to try for a week. Of course that did nothing. I went back. At this point I was told about a procedure that could be done that insurance didn't cover. The senior Rush didn't seem like he wanted to spend any more time on me. I think this procedure is something his son recommended and he doesn't like his son to be better than him.
