This could be a really nice park if the fine citizens of Amarillo didn't treat it like a landfill..The huge amount of plastic bags and bottles in and around the water is sad, considering all the ducks, turtles, and fish that call the water home.
Also, there should be signs posted advising people not to feed bread to the ducks. Bread is bad for them. It can lead to health problems like obesity, malnutrition and a crippling condition known as "angel wing." Too much free food of any kind may also endanger ducklings just by teaching them to beg rather than forage.
The playground area is very nice! It is wheelchair accessible and even has a swing for kids in a wheelchair. The ground is padded for safety. You can enjoy the view of the pond from the playground area. There is a nice pubic area and a walking trail. The only thing that bothered me was the smell of the stagnant water in the pond. It was disgusting! There are bathroom very closed to the playground which is very convenient!
Beautiful place for a bar b bue. Or any outdoor event. I heard they just restocked the pond with fish too. Beautiful beautiful place!
Beautiful place to fish (with a licence), feed ducks, walk, run, and just sit on a park bench. Sensory friendly park for special needs folks very upscale. Water pad in the summer. Located next to the hospitals and Don Harrington Discovery Center. Not far from eateries and a few convenient stores. Enjoy a picnic in the park with plenty of shade even.
I bring my dog here to exercise. There is much to see, and for him to sniff. Beautiful park.
